Re: Strophalos of Hecaté or Hekate's Wheel

Here's a short video of a Hekate's Wheel that has been reproduced as an actual wind chime type set-up. It's not very animated due to the heavy metal that was used and I think due to the way it is strung together. But it does give some hint to what the thing might be like if it was actually strung to...

Re: Strophalos of Hecaté or Hekate's Wheel

Excellent post, monsnoleedra and I've experienced the same. There are points at which that raw observance IS the lesson, too, which can be a little maddening. She's one of those beings that seems to love forcing a change in the way we perceive the universe around us and plays tricks with the light....

Re: Strophalos of Hecaté or Hekate's Wheel

That's a fair point, and to add to it "Virgin" originally referred to a woman whose honor could not be challenged. They could totally be beholden to a man or a woman, but their relations could not be challenged as being impure. In essence, they were seen as being beyond reproach. As the c...

Re: Hekate & Her Mysteries

Honestly, that's really rather unsurprising (to both of us, I imagine), given the wildly variable nature of nomenclature, especially around what can end up being the same "tech" viewed from different angles. Some of the terminology that gets tossed around is essentially just a different n...

Re: Hekate & Her Mysteries

Ah, I follow. Thank you for spelling this out, as you're referring to a role I'm well familiar with...just using a different name for it. For me, these acts fall under the job of Psychopomp and Priest, so "Spirit Keeper" is now a term I can associate with the role itself. Cheers. When I f...

Re: A list of reference material for Hekate research.

Here's another's Thesis research project that can be added to your material on Hekate library. Reflections on the Enigmatic Goddess: The Origins of Hekate and the Development of her Character to the End of the Fifth Century B.C. This is a study aimed at reconsidering the origins, in the broadest sen...

Re: Hekate & Her Mysteries

What do you mean by "Spirit Keeper" in this context? Are we speaking on the subject of working with and enslaving the dead, or something else entirely? I've switched the order of things around a bit on this one. Just felt I needed to. A Spirit Keeper is a Psychopomp role. Basically the pe...

Re: Strophalos of Hecaté or Hekate's Wheel

We're very much on the same page in this respect, and seem to approach the issue from a relatively similar angle. The psuedohistory you've mentioned here is something of a constant, as religious beliefs have been twisted away from what they originally represented. Its one of the facets of the New A...

Re: Hekate & Her Mysteries

I think I get what you're driving at, in this context, and it makes some sense. If she is indeed clothed in the sea without actually being of the sea or responsible for the sea, then it would (or could) suggest that she was "adopted" by a power of the sea. That, or she was granted that po...

Re: A list of reference material for Hekate research.

Here's another resource to add to the list. N. E. Akyürek Şahin, The Cult of Hecate in Lydia: Evidence from the Manisa Museum, Gephyra 13, 2016, 1-48. In this article, the cult of Hecate in Lydia is examined on the basis of both the Hecate monuments housed in the Manisa Museum and those whose Lydian...
