Correspondances - Colour?

I'm having a little confusion with the colour correspondences and when a particular scale should be used and why.
In D.M. Kraigs Modern Magick he says that the Queen Scale should be used as the primary scale for the sephiroth and the King Scale for the paths. It states that this creates a duality and balance on the tree.
I have several questions based of this.
Firstly is there a particular reason why these are the primary scales used?
If so, what are the other scales used for? Are they just about giving me options?
I thought that the tree of life wasn't meant to have duality in this way, I understood that within each sephiroth and path dualitys existed but the point of the tree was to go above these dualitys to find divinity. (I suspect this is a misunderstanding of several points that have been mashed together in my mind though)
