Torturing deities?

I've recently discussed a few Shinto rituals, and it basically got into a point in the conversation in which there was a suggestion that the splitting ritual to embody a shintai could also be used as a torture ritual against the deity in question. I didn't press the issue for a variety of reasons, so I'm asking here if its all bull or if I could put it to some pratical application.
