Neutralizing and even Hijacking Sigils

I've seen a lot of sigils floating around different forums for different purposes. Some are very cute looking with good intentions and purposes and most are just odd. Who knows who made them and what they are really for.
Someone suggested that to neutralize them just draw them on stones and bury them. Perhaps in a cemetery? What are your thoughts and ideas? How would you even hijack the energy or alter a sigil's purpose?
Some friends were targeted by a rival magician who made some sigils and gave them to his group of magicians to charge and use.
