Pygmy spirits

Does anyone have any experience with the Pygmy, as they appear in grimoires like the Black Raven?
I've had a real interest in these spirits as in Greek mythology the Pygmaioi are described as being an African people who are relatives of black Libyans and Ethiopians. This could possibly mean that the Pygmy spirits as they appear in certain grimories are not gnome spirits, but African spirits of the dead.
